Deborah Ross: Jobs and Civil Rights Are Federal Issues

Press Release

U.S. Senator Richard Burr is trying to dodge questions on HB2, claiming it "doesn't involve federal issues" despite the fact the new discriminatory law will hurt North Carolina businesses and is already being challenged by a federal lawsuit.

Just this week, the High Point Furniture Market -- an event that generates $5.38 billion in state economic activity annually -- reported customers have cancelled plans to attend. The discriminatory measure has already opened North Carolina up to a federal lawsuit, and it threatens the rights of North Carolina workers, as it takes away employees' rights to sue in state court should they be terminated because of their religion, race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age.

"North Carolina jobs and our citizens' civil rights are federal issues, and we need a U.S. Senator who will not duck from standing up against harmful legislation -- no matter where it comes from," said Deborah.

Following the passage of HB2, Deborah spoke out against the law saying that "HB2 will hurt our citizens and makes our great state less welcoming to new residents and businesses, who can help bring economic growth."
